Read a portion of what the individual wrote who nominated Father Taylor:
“The Reverend Jemonde Taylor has been a champion, advocate, and leader for innovative green stormwater infrastructure, progressive floodplain management, equity, environmental justice, and community resiliency. Throughout his partnership, residents in disproportionately impacted communities have gained more knowledge, resources, and awareness of flooding and water quality.
The Reverend Jemonde Taylor has served on the Stormwater Management Advisory Commission (SMAC) for six years and as SMAC Chair for a majority of this time. During his tenure on SMAC, he led the Commission in visioning, work planning, advancing equitable community engagement and service delivery, reporting to City Council, collaborated with Stormwater and Environmental Advisory Board, and advocated for the City Stormwater staff team. Outside of SMAC, he has advocated for Raleigh Stormwater by presenting and participating in the US Water Alliance Water Equity Network, leading the State of the Stormwater discussion for the Raleigh Comprehensive Plan, and actively participating in the Walnut Creek Federal Waters Partnership. He recently conducted an interview with the Wake County Water Partnership to promote green stormwater infrastructure benefits and maintenance.
During his six year tenure on SMAC, he helped approve 191 Raleigh Rainwater Reward (R3) projects, totaling $1,910,253 in funding. Those projects treated 10.8 acres of impervious surface and removed 91.5 pounds of nitrogen per year. In the last year, R3 projects captured 1.4 million gallons of water.”
