1 Peter 4:10-11

10 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:

11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever.”

When the coronavirus pandemic hit last year, we were unaware of how its devastation would severely impact the world and even our communities. The loss of life and livelihood is breaking news, yet in the midst of the pandemic because of God’s grace and mercy, many have survived.

The scripture 1 Peter 4:10-11, tells us about the gift of service and stewardship. Since last year, parishioners of St. Ambrose church have participated in a variety of food distribution events. On May 2, 2020, our first effort was spearheaded by a team lead by Phyllis Gray with the Food Bank of NC. Because of that effort and through partnerships with community organizations such as the Food Bank of NC, UCAN (African-American urban farmers out of Durham), and FarmShare (also out of Durham), we have been able to sustain a moderate monthly in-reach and outreach food distribution program serving about twenty families.

We enjoy this ministry because we know that we are using our gifts in service to others and in so doing we glorify God and we are confident that everyone involved in efforts of support serving our community on the front-line is serving according to the gifts received from God.
